Massive East New York house fire leaves 1 dead

EAST NEW YORK, Brooklyn — An adult was found dead when a vacant Brooklyn home went up in flames Tuesday night.

The fire broke out around 8:30 p.m., Tuesday in a 3-story vacant home at 420 Lincoln Ave., in the East New York section of the borough. It was placed under control hours later.

Video uploaded to Twitter by the FDNY shows flames shooting into the sky.Firefighters were pulled from the original building and the one next to it. A portion of the original building has collapsed.

Upon extinguishment of the blaze, an unidentified adult person was discovered, unconscious and unresponsive, inside the building and was later pronounced dead. A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Authorities say the person found dead was possibly a squatter.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
