NORTHAMPTON, England — A thief’s clever attempt to hide stolen blinds backfired when he was caught by a surveillance camera leaving a Northampton, England store with his stolen item very much visible.

On Sunday afternoon, the man went into the Dunelm Mill home goods store in Northampton and grabbed a venetian blind. He allegedly attempted to conceal the blind by shoving it down one of his pant legs and up the back of his jacket, Northants Police said.

He walked out with the blind and surveillance cameras captured his attempt at a clever concealment, police said.

Store workers didn’t turn a blind eye and followed him out. They caught up to him near the store, and he dropped the blind and ran away, according to police.

The blind was damaged as a result of his attempted theft, police said.
