Third precinct police responded at 11:58 p.m. Thursday to reports of a man lying on the road in front of 231 American Blvd., a residential area with large yards and patches of wooded areas, Google Maps shows.

A man, who has been identified as Dewann Stacks, of Brentwood, was located at the scene and suffering head trauma. He had been lying on the s

Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy Sini said Stacks' death is being investigated as a homicide and police believe the assailant or assailants are members of a street gang.

The 34-year-old was pronounced dead by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

The Medical Examiner’s office will determine his cause of death.

Sacks' body was located 1 mile from where 15-year-old Nisa Mickens’ body was found one month ago to the day.

Mickens was apparently beaten to death and struck by a vehicle the day before her 16th birthday when she attempted to fight off a friend’s kidnappers, police said at the time.

She was one of four teens, including her friend, Kayla Cuevas, who were found dead in the span of 11 days last month in the area.

The other teens, Oscar Acosta, 19, and Miguel Garcia-Moran, 15, had been reported missing months earlier. Their bodies were located on Sept. 23.

Police do not believe Stacks' death is related to those of the four teens, but their deaths are believed to be gang-related as well.
