MARBLE HILL, The Bronx — A man attacked by a group in the Bronx earlier this month died Wednesday and police are asking for the public’s help to find three men, in addition to three people already under arrest, who are wanted in the assault.
The victim, identified only as a 36-year-old man, was attacked shortly after 4 a.m. Oct. 2 in front of 5523 Broadway, police said.
He’d been walking along when a group of men approached him and one of them punched the victim in the face, knocking him to the ground unconscious, police said. Others in the group then joined in, punching and kicking the man as he lay on the sidewalk.
Police arrived to find the victim suffering from head trauma. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and died Wednesday, 10 days after the attack. The case has been reclassified a homicide, police said.
Days after the assault, a woman and two men were arrested and each was charged with two counts of gang assault in the first and second degrees.
The suspects have been identified as Hector L. Quezada, 23; Jenny B. Gutierrez, 22; and Joel Hernandez, 23. All are residents of Manhattan, NYPD said.
As they announced the victim’s death, police called on the public for help finding three others wanted in the case and seen in surveillance video from that night.
Anyone with information in the case is urged to call NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA.
