Fire at NJ Transit headquarters prompts evacuation, no one injured

NEWARK, N.J. — A transformer outside of the NJ Transit Headquarters in Newark caught fire Sunday and prompted an evacuation.

The transformer caught fire around 1:30 p.m. outside the building, located at 1 Penn Plaza East in Newark.

No one was hurt, according to NJ Transit.  Only a few people were inside, but people are not yet able to return to the building per transit authorities.

No trains or bus routes have been affected.

PSEG and firefighters are assessing the damage left behind and determining if it is safe for people to be in the area.
