Police say they confronted the man around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the parking garage of the Foxwoods Resort Casino after discovering he had an outstanding arrest warrant from state authorities.

When police from the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation — who owns and operates the casino — attempted to talk to the man in the Fox Tower parking garage, the casino patron produced a weapon, authorities said. The man was killed in the ensuing gunfire.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the man killed. No other details were immediately available.

Foxwoods said in a statement on it Twitter that the “isolated incident” would not affect the casino hours.

“This morning, there was an isolated incident on property in the Fox Tower Garage that was quickly contained,” the statement says. “The safety and well-being of our guests and employees remains Foxwoods’ top priority, and there is no current threat to anyone on the premises.”
