NEW HANOVER, N.C. — A North Carolina woman was arrested after her mother’s body was discovered in a freezer.

Marcella Jean Lee, 56, is accused of hiding her mother’s dead body in a chest freezer she sold to a neighbor for $30, WECT reports.

Lee allegedly told the neighbor not to open the freezer because it was being used for a time capsule in a church project. She told the neighbor that the church would come and collect the items inside, but never did.

The neighbor eventually opened the freezer and found the body of Arma Ann Roush.

According to WECT, the medical examiner listed the cause of Roush’s death as unknown but said there were no signs of foul play.

Lee was charged with concealing/failure to report a death.

She was booked in the New Hanover County Jail under a $50,000 bond.
