Man arrested for allegedly stripping stolen vehicles in Hempstead

HEMPSTEAD, Long Island — A man was arrested for allegedly stealing three vans and stripping their parts to use for other vehicles, police said.

The NYPD found three stolen Ford Econoline vans parked at a home on Glenmore Avenue. Investigators later discovered that Richard Drakes, 23, who was living at the home, was allegedly taking parts off the vans and using it for other vehicles.

Drakes was arrested and charged with criminal possession of stolen property and auto stripping, according to police.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Saturday.
