Man dies in boating accident at Jones Beach Inlet

JONES BEACH — A man has died after he was involved in a boating accident at the Jones Beach Inlet Friday afternoon.

Officials received a distress call around 2:15 p.m.

According to detectives, two good Samaritans while boating in the inlet when they saw a 63-year-old man floating in the water by a buoy near the west channel of Jones Beach.

They called police and pulled him aboard.

Nassau County Police and the Coast Guard responded and performed CPR. He was transported to the Jones Beach Coast Guard Station by boat and transferred to to NUMC where he was pronounced deceased.

No other people were trapped beneath the boat.

The identification of the man is being withheld pending family notification.
