You only live once – and now you have Oxford English Dictionary approval to abbreviate that as YOLO.
The OED added hundreds of new words – including YOLO – to its pages on Monday.
OED’s new list of dictionary-approved diction includes several entries connected to Roald Dahl in honor of what would have been his 100th birthday.
Dahl-related entries include splendiferous, human bean, Oompa Loompa and Dahlesque.
Other notable new words include squee, moobs, biatch, clickbait, fuhgeddaboudit, ‘Merica and yogalates.
Been added, Yoda-like has.
OED, which was first published in 1884, only adds entries to its pages when they’ve been in use for a while. A team of 17 OED employees on a New Words team carefully vet word entries before determining if the word deserves an OED entry.
