Infant found underneath crib with wire around neck in the Bronx

HIGHBRIDGE, The Bronx — Police are searching for a woman who allegedly abandoned her infant son in their Bronx apartment.

Shakeria Spaights, 41, allegedly left her 5-month-old son unattended in their apartment on Summit Avenue in the Highbridge section of the borough on Wednesday.

The building manager noticed Spaights had not signed in for several days and did a room check. The baby, named King, was found underneath his crib with a phone charger wrapped around his neck.

The infant was taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition.

Police released a photo of Spaights from several days prior to her disappearance.

Spaights has a number of previous arrests for charges such as drug possession, petit larceny and prostitution, according to police sources.

She has also has a prior case with ACS involving another child, sources said.
