Neighbors call for replacement of torn and tattered flags in Brooklyn

A United States Flag and POW/MIA Flag flying at the corner of 47th Street and 19th Avenue in Borough Park, Brooklyn again are inspiring patriotic feelings.

The flags were torn and hanging in pieces from the flagpole.

Neighbors living near the "NYC Greenstreets" area say they noticed the flags were worn last week. Nick Deliso contacted PIX11's Greg Mocker.

City officials replaced the flags Sunday morning.

Torn flags can be reported to 311 or your local city councilmember's office.

Members of New York Rescue Response Team have assisted the city in the retirement of  flags. Glen Schneider also works with NYRTT Search & Rescue. He observed the flag and described the proper removal procedure.
