EAST NEW YORK, Brooklyn — Police are searching for a man who allegedly assaulted and tried to rape a woman in a Brooklyn apartment stairwell Saturday morning.

Police say the suspect entered the stairwell on the third floor and allowed the woman to pass him.

The suspect then allegedly pushed the victim to the ground where he sexually assaulted and tried to rape her.

He removed $100 from the victim's purse before running away.

EMS transported the victim to Kings County Hospital for treatment.

Police released surveillance video showing the suspect running out of the stairwell after the incident.

He is described as being in his late 20s; 5-foot-10 and weighing 150 pounds with tattoos on his arms.
