NEW YORK — A multivehicle crash forced a portion of the southbound Major Deegan Expressway to fully close during rush-hour Friday morning, causing miles of traffic heading into the city.
Multiple vehicles appeared to be involved in the crash around 8 a.m., AIR11 showed. At least three fire tucks, an ambulance and tow truck were on scene.
The incident prompted a full closure of southbound lanes between Van Cortlandt Park and West 230th Street.
The crash was cleared before 9:30 a.m.
During the closure, vehicles could be seen slowly moving past the crash using the shoulder.
Traffic was backed up for miles at the time, AIR11 footage showed.
