CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. — A man has been charged with attempted murder in the shotgun shooting of a medical school dean who was his former boss.
Authorities say Hengjun Chao, of Tuckahoe, was taken into custody after shooting Dr. Dennis Charney outside a deli in suburban Chappaqua Monday morning. Charney is the dean of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.
Another unidentified man was also wounded. Both are expected to survive.
The Journal News reports that Chao was involved in a legal dispute with the hospital.
Mount Sinai Health System released a statement saying Chao was a former Mount Sinai faculty member who was terminated in 2010.
The 49-year-old Chao's next court date is Sept. 7. It wasn't clear if he had a lawyer.
The shooting happened near Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's home in Chappaqua.
