Streets still closed on Upper West Side, buses rerouted after water main break

UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan — Streets are still closed Tuesday morning as authorities try to repair damage caused by a water main break.

It happened on W. 90th Street and Amsterdam Avenue around 9:30 a.m. Monday.

The break flooded nearby streets and sidewalks and even caused a giant sinkhole to open up, swallowing a BMW SUV.

Firefighters are inspecting basements in the area, and say some have 5 or 6 feet of water.

The MTA is currently rerouting the M7 and M11 buses.

The Department of Environmental Protection is trying to shut down the main to make repairs.
