NJ Transit cop rescues man from tracks moments before train arrives

SECAUCUS, N.J. — A New Jersey Transit police officer is being hailed a hero for his quick-thinking that saved a man from being run over by a train Friday.

Video released by NJ Transit shows a man lying on the train tracks at the Secaucus train station.

Officer Victor Ortiz is then seen pulling the man off the tracks, just moments before a train speeds by.

"Officer Ortiz’s selfless and heroic actions demonstrated a level of bravery and a true sense of compassion and purpose that often goes unrecognized but is ever present in our law enforcement community," the transit agency said in a statement Sunday evening.

Ortiz has been with the department for 16 years.
