LIRR service disrupted after person is struck by train near Mineola

NEW YORK — LIRR commuters faced heavy delays Thursday after a person was struck by a train near Mineola, causing service disruptions and suspensions.

LIRR tweeted at 7:16 a.m. that an unauthorized person had been struck west of Mineola. His or her condition was not immediately known.

Service on Ronkonkoma, Port Jefferson and Oyster Bay was suspended in both directions following the incident.

By 8:30 a.m., service was partially restored on Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson, with the trains operating at reduced speed through the Mineola area.

All westbound trains are now making all local stops.

Limited service for Oyster Bay was restored by 9:15 a.m.
