Jazz Age Lawn Party
Sat 13 and Sun 14 at 11am–5pm on Governors Island, $55
Slap on your spats and practice the Charleston because the Jazz Age Lawn party is returning to Governor’s Island. Sip on Prohibition-era cocktails like a classic St-Germain with mineral water and a twist or a glass of bubbly and none of the back-alley hooch of the day. Food vendors will be on hand to keep your Lindy Hop hoppin’.

Battery Dance Festival
Aug 14-19 at Robert F. Wagner Jr. Park, 20 Battery Place, 6:30–8:30pm, free
This free celebration (formerly the Downtown Dance Festival) welcomes dance from India, Austria, Belgium, Turkey, Romania and, of course, New York. The splashy final event on Aug. 20 goes indoors to Pace University, but all other performances take place in front of the sparkling New York Harbor.

The New York International Fringe Festival 2016
Aug 12-28, various locations and times, $18 per show
The 20th edition of this enormous annual downtown festival includes work by nearly 200 frantically rotating companies in 16 venues, mostly in the East Village and on the Lower East Side. The wildly eclectic lineup includes musicals, dance pieces, classical revivals and plays inspired by the lives of Richard Pryor, Pete Seeger, Jeane Kirkpatrick, Stokely Carmichael and Muammar Qaddafi's cook.
