NEW YORK — The owner of a New York City grocery chain is offering a $5,000 reward for information on some would be ice cream thieves.
John Catsimatidis, owner of Gristedes, says a man and woman tried to make off with bagfuls of ice cream pints from one of his stores.
"Ice cream bandits are wreaking havoc on NYC supermarkets," Catsimatidis tweeted out Friday.
There have been 250 complaints of ice cream thefts in 2016, police said. There have been 130 arrests and police say they are working closely with retailers to combat the ice cream theft.
