EAST HARLEM, Manhattan — A man has been arrested after allegedly breaking into an 8-year-old girl’s bedroom in East Harlem while she slept, then attempting to rape her, police said Thursday.

The NYPD released a sketch on July 13, 2016, of a man accused of attempting to rape an 8-year-old in her East Harlem home.

Juan Barreto, 27, is expected to be charged with attempted rape, burglary and endangering the welfare of a child.

He lives on the same block as the young victim, according to police.

Barreto is accused of breaking into the 8-year-old’s bedroom as she slept the night of July 7.

He then attempted to sexually assault her and eventually fled through a bedroom window and out a rear fire escape, according to police.
