Tornado watch issued for NYC, parts of New Jersey

NEW YORK — A tornado watch has been issued for New York City and parts of New Jersey Friday, ahead of the holiday weekend rush, according to the National Weather Service.

The watch is in effect until 10 p.m. and the system moving into the region could bring with it ping pong-size hail and gusts up to 70 mph, the agency said.


Expect the severe weather to start later in the afternoon Friday, after 4 p.m., PIX11 News' meteorologist Chris Knowles said. It'll move out in time for Saturday -- which will be warm but less humid.
