FLUSHING, Queens – If you looked to the sky in a Queens neighborhood Wednesday, you’d be in for a surprise – and a safety hazard.

A mattress perched perilously in the branches of a tree, high above the ground where residents walk and outside apartment windows at the James Bland Houses in Flushing.

A PIX11 News viewer alerted us to the problem. When our crew arrived, residents were relieved to see us. They’d been watching their heads since Tuesday, making sure to avoid the hanging bed.

It’s unclear how the mattress came to rest in the tree.

NYCHA told PIX11 News they had no idea about it but that they would work on a solution right away.

It’s not your average clean-up, though. It may require a cherry picker.
