Howard wants to know why contractor isn’t behind bars

QUEENS, New York -- Attention homeowners: Beware! Derrick Burrell is back at it.

Burrell is a contractor we exposed four years ago for taking a lot of money from people, ripping their homes apart, and then disappearing. It seems he works mostly in Queens. But if you have money, he’s probably glad to take it.

And he’s now taking it under an assumed name: James Gray.

Carole Gulston of Cambria Heights had Gray recommended to her. She’s 74, and in a wheelchair. She wanted her kitchen made wheelchair friendly. James Gray (Derrick Burrell) was glad to accommodate.

“Oh, he was very personable,” Gulston told me. “Very interested in doing the job and said that he could do the job. He could do the electricity, the plumbing, the painting the flooring. Everything.”

Gray took her money and never did the work. She poked around online and found some of our old stories. She realized James Gray was Derrick Burrell.

Gulston says she’s been contacted by law enforcement. She hopes to have the chance to press charges against him. But will it do any good? I was there when the NYPD busted Burrell for grand larceny two years ago.

That case still hasn’t been resolved! We’ll see what happens now.
