NEW YORK – Music icon Prince may be gone but his life and work will be commemorated at events throughout New York City.

Questlove, drummer for the Grammy-award winning band the Roots, will pay tribute to his mentor and friend at the Brooklyn Bowl at 11 p.m. Thursday.

In Fort Greene, Brooklyn, director Spike Lee will hold a block party at 40 Acres between DeKalb and Lafayette avenues.

Lee wrote on his Instagram post to wear something purple and "we will dance, sing and shout to his music."

Meanwhile, the Apollo Theater's marque honored Prince with lyrics of his well-known hit "Purple Rain"
