NEW YORK – Large plumes of steam were billowing high above midtown streets Monday morning after a pipe burst in the area.

It began about 9:30 a.m. along West 58th Street near Sixth Avenue, EMS said. That portion of West 58th Street is shut down for repair.

Officials at the scene said the issue started as a water main leak which triggered steam.

Con Edison has shut down steam, leaving four customers without, a spokesperson for the utility company said.

A resident said he was evacuated from his home while crews responded to the scene and worked to fix the problem.

No injuries were reported.
