ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.—A rude message on a Starbucks drink cup was deeply personal for one customer.

A Florida man ordered a grande white mocha, and when he got his drink, he saw a message on the label that read “diabetes here I come,” WJAX reported.

The comment was especially hurtful because his sisters both suffer from diabetes.

“That first word just automatically brought the picture of both sisters in my head, and I was taken aback,” said the Starbucks customer.

The customer wrote a note back to the barista that read, “2 of my sisters are diabetic, so not funny.”

Starbucks issued a statement after the incident expressing their disappointment.

“We strive to provide an inclusive and positive experience for our customers, and we’re disappointed to learn of this incident. We are working directly with the customer to apologize for his experience, and with our partners (employees) to ensure this does not happen again,” Starbucks wrote.

WJAX reported that the customer doesn’t want an apology, he just wants to make sure it does not happen to anyone else in the future.
