Man tries to rob 11-year-old on Queens street: police

DITMARS STEINWAY, Queens — Police are looking for a man responsible for trying to rob an 11-year-old.

On Thursday at 2:20 p.m., the boy was talking near 21st Avenue and 43rd Street when the suspect walked up behind him, put his arm around his shoulder and attempted to take the victim’s phone from his pocket, police said.

The boy resisted and the suspect, a white man with dyed red hair, fled the scene, police said.

Police say the suspect is 5 foot 6 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. There were no reported injuries.
