LOS ANGELES — Vice president Joe Biden received a standing ovation when he stepped onto the stage during Sunday night’s Academy Awards.

The vice president wasn’t just there to announce nominees though. He talked about sexual assault and abuse happening on college campuses throughout the nation.

“Let’s change the culture so that no abused woman or man ever feels they have to ask themselves, ‘What did I do?’ They did nothing wrong,” Biden said during his speech.

“Let’s change the culture.”

Biden talked about the “It’s On Us” initiative, “an awareness campaign to help put an end to sexual assault on college campuses.”

President Obama and Biden launched the campaign in September 2014.

Lady Gaga took the stage with a powerful performance  of “Til It Happens to You,” from “The Hunting Ground,” that brought tears to the audience.
