HANOVER, N.J. — Two people were killed after a 5-ton generator fell from a crane at a construction site in northern New Jersey Thursday morning.
Hanover Mayor Ronald Francioli said a strap on a crane lowering the generator at an under-construction firehouse snapped.
Morris County prosecutor's office Executive Captain Richard Rose said the first man died at the scene and the second died later at a hospital. The mayor said one man suffered a collapsed lung, a broken rib cage and leg injuries.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration spokeswoman Lenore Uddyback-Forston said an inspector was dispatched to the work site to investigate after the fatal accident.
The work site is the future home of the Whippany Fire Company.
A spokesman for county prosecutors said the accident is under investigation.
