FORT MEYERS, Fla. — In what authorities described as a “gruesome” crime scene, a woman, her two daughters and the family dog were found brutally murdered in a Florida apartment early Sunday morning.
The woman’s boyfriend, 27-year-old Patrick Sean Carlopoli, of Iona Lakes Drive, has been arrested and is charged with second-degree murder, two counts of conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, two counts of aggravated child abuse and one count of felony animal cruelty.
He remains in the Lee County Jail under no bond.
Deputies arrived at the Iona Lakes Drive apartment after Carlopoli called 911 a t 4:15 a.m. Sunday.
“Patrick had visible blood splatter on his body and clothing,” an arrest report said. “Patrick told deputies ‘they are in there,’ pointing inside the residence — deputies detained Patrick, who made a spontaneous utterance that he shot his wife.”
According to the Fort Myers News-Press, Tammy Modlin, 37, and Montana Modlin, 16, were found shot to death on the bed inside the master bedroom. A firearm was found between them, the report said. Authorities say Carlopoli and Tammy Modlin were not married, but dating.
The bodies of Jeanne Carlopoli, 3, and the family dog were found nearby stabbed to death.
Jeanne was the daughter of Carlopoli and Tammy Modlin, but the teenage Modlin was from another relationship, authorities say.
Carlopoli has not been charged with killing the two children, authorities say.
A motive for the killings has not been released.
