NEW YORK — Did you wake up feeling a little down today? You’re not alone.

This year, Blue Monday fell on Jan. 18, which is officially the “Most Depressing Day of the Year.”

The “concept” was first published in 2005 by Sky Travel. The company had a psychologist create a formula to determine which day of the year people were the most depressed, according to the Telegraph. Based on the bad weather and post-holiday debt levels, the formula determined the third Monday of January as the “Most Depressing Day of the Year.”

However, there’s no real scientific evidence behind the study. The formula and day was created as a marketing campaign.

So don’t feel too blue today, there’s a lot to look forward to this year. Here’s wha

  1. It’s a leap year: Anyone born on Feb. 29 will finally be able to celebrate their real birthday. Leap years happen every four years, so enjoy an extra day in February.
  2. The summer olympics: The summer olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from Aug. 5 to 21. Get ready to see some new and returning athletes at the games.
  3. The presidential election: Americans watched the Republican and Democratic presidential candidates battle it out during the live debates for months. In two weeks, voters in Iowa will cast their votes for the first formal balloting of the 2016 presidential election. The presidential election will be held on Nov. 8.
  4. Low gas prices: The average cost of a gallon of gas in the U.S. is $1.89, down 17 cents from last year, according to the Daily Fuel Gauge Report. Just four years ago, Americans were paying $3.60 for a gallon of gas.
  5. 2016 Superbowl 50: Even if your favorite team isn’t in the Superbowl, the halftime performance is something to look forward to. Beyonce will be performing at the Superbowl for the second time. Coldplay will also be joining her on the stage, and be prepared for a possible special guest appearance. If that doesn’t entice you, at least it’s a reason to enjoy some bar food with your friends.
