Driver, 24 passengers hurt after NJ Transit bus slams into tree

NEW JERSEY – A New Jersey Transit bus crashed into a tree Monday afternoon, leaving the driver and 24 passengers injured, according to officials.

The 37 line bus was headed to Ivy Hill from Newark Airport when the driver crashed just before 2 p.m.  The bus slammed into a tree near the intersection of Wainwright and Lyons Avenues in Weequahic.

The injured were taken to Newark-area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Newark police and EMS responded to the scene.

An investigation into what led to the accident is ongoing.
