NEW YORK – Police are looking for a man they believe killed one person in the Bronx and wounded another in Manhattan in a wild string of violent crimes.
The NYPD is warning the public not to approach 23-year-old Ruben Pizarro, AKA "Chullo," but to call police immediately. Pizarro, whose last listed address is on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx, is 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs roughly 160 pounds.
This past New Year's Eve, he pulled out a gun and jumped into a Ford van parked in front of 54 Sherman Street in Washington Heights and ordered the 22-year-old driver to take him to Ellwood Street, according to police. Once he got there, Pizarro allegedly stole the driver's ID, jacket and debit card, before ordering him to keep the van parked until he got back.
Pizarro then got out and walked up to a 29-year-old standing in front of 61 Ellwood. Armed with a pistol, Pizarro forced the man to hand over a backpack, which contained a Playstation 4, before shooting him in the shoulder, police said.
Detectives say Pizarro then jumped back into the van – which was still waiting for him – and ordered the driver to take him back to the Bronx, where he fled the vehicle. The driver wasn't hurt, but the owner of the backpack was rushed to Harlem Hospital in stable condition.
In another incident on the 24th of November, Pizarro allegedly shot and killed 24-year-old David Rivera in broad daylight along Crotona Park North. The two got into an argument just after 9:00 a.m., and Pizarro allegedly pulled out a gun. When Rivera turned and ran, Pizarro allegedly began firing, striking Rivera in the torso, thigh, arm and groin. Rivera was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital.
Pizarro is a known Bloods gang member with a lengthy rap sheet, according to police sources, who say he has been arrested at least 30 times.
Pizarro should be considered armed and dangerous, according to police.
Anyone with information is urged to call Detective Joseph Flores at (718) 299-4119 or the Bronx Detective Bureau at (718) 378-8083.
