ATLANTA, Georgia – A 6-year-old child was hospitalized and has returned home after allegedly being stabbed in the face by his guardian Wednesday morning.
Atlanta police said the child got on the school bus to go to Heritage Academy Elementary School in Atlanta with a deep wound under his left eye, according to WGCL.
The injury was so bad, the bus driver noticed it immediately.
The child was taken to Children’s Hospital of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding where his wound was stitched.
Police arrested Markie Moon at the home where the boy lives, but her relationship to him is still not clear.
“She just said she was disciplining the child. She did not admit to stabbing the child or anything like that. She said she just poked him,” APD Lieutenant Celeste Murphy told the station. “It was a utensil, we’re just not sure if it was a fork or a knife. The child is 6-years-old so all we could get out of him is that he was being disciplined.”
It is unclear what led up to the stabbing.
Atlanta police are investigating the incident.
