Heavy fire destroys house in Kearny, New Jersey

KEARNY, N.J. – Firefighters fought off a heavy fire that ripped apart a single family house in Kearny Tuesday morning.

Kearny Fire Chief Steven Dyl said the fire started at 199 Laurel Ave.

There was one occupant inside the a home, an 18-year-old who managed to get out, Dyl said.

Heavy flames consumed the first and second floor, leading to a roof collapse.

There were no injuries. The fire is under investigation.
