Sept. 13, 2015, at about 1 p.m., the MTA has announced, the 7 train will begin running from the new extension at 34th Street and 11th Avenue.
The station has been in the works since 2007 and it’s opening has been delayed several times in the last few years.
The City of New York covered most of the more than $2 billion cost. Before he left office, then-Mayor Michael Bloomberg took a ceremonial ride to the unfinished station in December 2013. Bloomberg responded to a question from PIX11’s Greg Mocker about the city’s commitment to transit after taking a ceremonial ride.
The station has been called 34th Street-Hudson Yards. Although some other names have been suggested.
