SUFFERN, N.Y.— A human fetus found at a sewer plant in Suffern will be buried this week, police said.

A private service will take place at Scarr Funeral Home and Airmont Cemetery who have both donated their services to ensure a proper burial takes place.

“This is simply a matter of doing what is morally right with no politics involved,” police chief Clarke Osborn said.

Employees at a village sewer plant  found the fetus last Friday at 7:40 a.m. in a sewer grate.

Police said, through a thorough investigation, they believe that the fetus was male and was miscarried between 15 and 19 weeks in development.

Investigators are still unsure as to how the fetus ended up in the grate and have yet to find its parents.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 845-357-2300.
