New Paltz, N.Y. — A movie theater in New Paltz is biting its tongue after it posted a snarky Facebook post about a fire that happened in the theater on Monday. The post since has been deleted and replaced with a funny apology.

A popcorn kettle was left on and caught fire at around 7:30 p.m. Five employees were on staff, but they allegedly left their positions to go to the game room, according to the New Paltz Cinemas Facebook post. The employees have since been fired.

“We intend to find more suitable employees and train and supervise them more effectively,” the Facebook post reads.

However, it doesn’t stop there. To add a little humor, the theater begin to talk about Bernie Sanders and the “hotly debated minimum wage requirement,” the post said.

“In the meantime, if anyone of you run into Bernie Sanders, please tell him that not every employee is worth $15.00 per hour,” it says. “Some are actually worth far less than the minimum wage and income inequality will and should always be with us.”

The movie theater encouraged young people to apply for the recently open positions. In another post on Monday night, the theater said it has received three dozen new job applications after the incident.
