CHINATOWN, Manhattan — An unlicensed dump truck driver was arrested and charged for hitting and killing an 83-year-old man on Canal Street and Bowery.

At 1:50 p.m. Friday, 83-year-old Ka Chor Yau was crossing Canal Street when he was struck by a dump truck coming off the Manhattan Bridge, traveling west on Canal Street.

Police found Yau lying on the ground with serious body trauma. EMS took Yau to Downtown Beekman Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

 

The 24-year-old driver Maykel Felix-Tejada was taken into custody at the scene. The Paterson native was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation.
