LIRR service back on schedule after trains sideswipe in Jamaica

JAMAICA, Queens –LIRR service back on schedule after trains sideswiped each other in Jamaica, Queens Thursday evening.

Two LIRR trains hit each other Friday evening at the Jamaica station, causing widespread cancellations and delays during the evening rush hour.

It happened around 6 p.m. Friday at the Long Island Rail Road's Jamaica station.There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman Adam Lisberg says at least one of the trains had riders aboard, but all got out safely.

Train service is operating out of Penn with delays of 10-15 minutes. There are residual delays systemwide, both east & westbound, averaging 30 minutes. NYCT is no longer cross-honoring LIRR fares on the E, 2 or 3 subway trains.
