The folks at the Boston Globe made a lot of noise with a little typo Friday

Twitter has always been riddled with typos, but one hysterical error tweeted by the Boston Globe on Friday was such a gas it’s become a news story all its own.

Just before 4:30 p.m., someone tweeted to the paper’s 400,000 followers: “Ed Reinhold, FBI, says FBI has investifarted about 70 leads already.”

By 6 p.m., the tweet had been shared and favorited thousands of times, making “investifarted” Friday’s most unlikely trending topic on social media.

The typo remained unexplained for around three hours before the Boston Globe folks tweeted a correction followed by a response that did little to explain the bizarre error.

“As policy we does not delete typographical errors on Twitter, but do correct #investifarted” read the tweet.
