The best and worst spots to catch the Macy’s 4th of July fireworks show

NEW YORK - You don't have to be on a DUMBO rooftop to get a good view of the Macy's 4th of July fireworks show over the East River.  Here are some of the best spots to catch the show around the five boroughs along with the worst.

Manhattan

Public viewing sections will be set up along the elevated portions of FDR Drive accessible from the following locations:

From Houston Street to Midtown:

• Houston Street

• 23rd Street

• 34th Street

• 42nd Street

From Lower Manhattan:

• Broad Street Ground Level

• Old Slip Upper Level

• Pearl & Frankfort

***As crowds grow, some locations will be closed and spectators will be redirected to additional open access points along FDR Drive.

Queens and Brooklyn

No special viewing areas will marked off, any location with an unobstructed view of the East River is ideal.

ADA/Special needs viewing area:

• FDR Drive southbound lane at 16th Street & Avenue C or 34th Street (top of ramp) and Vietnam Memorial Park.  In Brooklyn, a special viewing section will be set up at the Brooklyn Bridge Park at Furman Street and Old Fulton Street, near Pier 1.  In Queens, on Center Blvd. from 48th Avenue to 49th Avenue.

These are NOT recommended viewing areas:

• Battery Park

• Battery Park City

• Roosevelt Island

• Hunter's Point South

• Waterfront Park
