At 7:15 p.m. Thursday, police responded to a call of an assault in progress inside 871 Brook Ave.

Officers found the naked, bloodied body of Erica Wilson, who lived in the Melrose apartment.  She was lying face-down, unconscious and unresponsive with evidence of severe head trauma, police said.

PIX11 spoke with several of her neighbors who were close with the woman they called by her nickname, "Miki."

Anthony Aponte, who lives on the 5th floor, ran down the stairs to Wilson's apartment after hearing screams of "my sister is dead."  Inside the apartment, he says he saw a dumb bell lying on the floor near Wilson's body.  Police have not confirmed that it was the murder weapon.

Paramedics pronounced Wilson dead at the scene.

Wilson, one of six children, worked at Toys R Us at the Gateway Mall and as a nanny in Manhattan, where the rest of her family lives.

Detectives are now questioning her brother in the case, but he has not been arrested.
