MINEOLA, N.Y. — A Long Island man is facing murder and robbery charges in the death of a gas station attendant last January, officials said Thursday.

According to Nassau County police,  Joshua N. Golson-Orelus, of New Cassel, was arrested Wednesday in Utica. He was arraigned Thursday on first-degree murder in the Jan. 28 shooting death of Hany Awad, 56, of Levittown. Awad was working as a clerk at a BP Gas Station at in Jericho.

Golson-Orelus was held without bail. He was represented by Legal Aid, which has a policy of not commenting on pending cases.

Police say the 23-year-old also is a suspect in nearly a dozen armed robberies in Nassau County between December 2014 and March 2015. Police say additional charges are possible.

Police say he was tracked to Utica, where he has relatives.
