Crash kills 17-year-old girl walking with her sister on Long Island

DEER PARK, Long Island (PIX11) — A 17-year-old girl who was struck by a car while walking with her sister on Long Island has died from her injuries, police said Sunday.

Shakira Wilson was walking along Long Island Avenue near Pearsall Avenue in Deer Park when she was hit by a Lexus SUV, police in Suffolk County said. It happened shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday.

The 17-year-old Deer Park resident was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, suffering from a serious head injury, police said. Her 21-year-old sister with whom she was walking was not hurt.

The driver of the Lexus — identified as Joseph Ulysse, 67, of Wheatley Heights — was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said. His female passenger was not hurt.

Ulysse’s car was impounded for a safety check. An investigation is ongoing.
