Water main break spills into West Village subway station, alters train service

WEST VILLAGE, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Authorities are working to fix a large water main break at a West Village subway station.

It happened at 175 W. 13th Street around 7 p.m.

More than 500 people had to be evacuated from a subway train underground and temporarily halted service on the 1, 2 and 3 lines.

The FDNY, Office of Emergency Management and Department of Environmental Protection are responding to the incident.

As of 2:13 a.m., 1 and 2 trains are running express from Chambers St. to 34 St. Penn Station in both directions, according to the MTA.

Shuttle bus service is running between 34th- Penn Station and Chambers St. in both directions.

Both the 1 and 2 are running with delays in both directions. MTA urges customers to plan additional travel time.
