PATERSON, New Jersey (PIX11) - A woman trying to help another apparent ATM user ended up becoming the victim of an assault and robbery, according to Paterson police.

Surveillance video shows the woman inside a Chase vestibule at 148 Market Street in Paterson, when a man appears at the door.  She appears to almost turn back to what she is doing, but opens the door for the man anyway.  He stands behind her, talking on his phone as another man finishes his transaction and walks out.

Now alone with her, the suspect grabs her from behind, trying to rip the cash she collected from the machine right out of her right hand.  As she struggled to hold on to her money, the man bit down on her right hand, drawing blood and forcing her to release her grip, according to police.

The violent robbery happened December 28, and police are hoping the public can identify the man involved.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at (973) 321-1120 or (973) 523-TIPS.
