WOODHAVEN, Queens (PIX11/AP) — At least eight people were injured in a house fire that spread to several other homes in Queens Wednesday evening.
It took 175 firefighters about two hours to get the four-alarm blaze under control on 90th Street in the Woodhaven neighborhood. The Fire Department was called there around 8:10 p.m. on a gusty Wednesday.
Two firefighters and six civilians have been taken to hospitals. Their injuries are described as minor.
Firefighters say the blaze started in one house and quickly expanded to adjoining homes.
The fire has since been extinguished.
National Weather Service observations from about 7:50 p.m. Wednesday show sustained winds at nearby John F. Kennedy Airport were around 18 mph, with gusts to 25 mph.
