Body of woman found floating in East River: NYPD

NEW YORK (AP) — The NYPD is investigating the circumstances of the death of a woman whose body was found in the East River.

Police say they responded to 23rd Street and the East River Sunday afternoon after receiving a 911 call of a body in the water.

Police say the body was floating about 20 feet from the shoreline.

Emergency responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Police say there were no signs of trauma. The woman appeared to be in her 40s or 50s.

The medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death.
